NewsReligious Education Catechists Needed
We are in need of the following for the 2026-2027 school year as of Aug. 20:- Co-Catechist to assist with 3rd/4th Grade students on Mondays at 6pm
- Co-Catechist to assist with 1st Grade students on Mondays at 6pm
- Substitute catechists (fill in as needed) for all days/times especially Mondays at 5pm and 6pm

About Religious Education (RE) at St. Alphonsus

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MINISTRY: Grades PreK - 4th grade
At St. Alphonsus, Religious Education (RE) classes are for children in grades PreK through 4th grade. Classes begin after Labor Day, meet once a week in Weitzel Hall for 50 minutes throughout the school year and are led by volunteer catechists. Class size is limited to 15 children and to 10 children for PreK. Class Times:
Sundays: 9:30am & 4pm | Mondays: 5pm & 6pmNote: Here at St. Alphonsus, children may receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion if they have reached the age of reason (7 years old), have completed at least one year of formal catechesis - either in a parish religious education program, Catholic homeschool or parish school - and are in 2nd grade.

Our Religious Education classes at St. Alphonsus are for children in grades Pre-K (age 4 by August 1st) through 4th grade. Classes begin after Labor Day. Classes are 50 minutes long and meet in Weitzel Hall once a week throughout the school year.
The curriculum follows the weekly liturgical calendar which generates familiarity with the Gospel the children hear each week at Mass. Sacramental preparation is taught in first and second grades. Registration is required to place your child in a class.
Our program relies on the generosity of time and talent of volunteer catechists. Each year, around 50 catechists are needed. Two catechists are assigned to each classroom with up to 15 children. Training and supplies are provided, and continued support is offered throughout the academic year. Please prayerfully consider volunteering!PLEASE NOTE :
- Register as soon as possible, as classes fill up quickly.

After registration, watch for a future email confirming your classroom assignment. Classroom assignments are finalized once we determine enrollment and secure our volunteer catechists.

Volunteer With Youth at St. Alphonsus

There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with our youth ages Pre-K through 4th grade, including serving as a religious education catechist, as well as assisting with First Holy Communion and First Reconciliation retreats and Vacation Bible School.
