Our program relies on the generosity of time and talent of volunteer catechists. Each year, around 50 volunteer catechists are needed to teach children from Pre-K to 4th grade. Two catechists are assigned to each classroom, which may have up to 15 children (10 children for Pre-K). We provide training and supplies, as well as continued support throughout the academic year. Please prayerfully consider volunteering, and sign up using the form below for your preferred grade/day/time. As classes fill we may add additional classes.
Religious Education classes at St. Alphonsus are:
For children in grades Pre-K through 4th grade.
Classes begin after Labor Day and meet once a week in Weitzel Hall.
Classes are 50 minutes.
Some grades may have two classrooms per session.
Class times for 2026-2027 are:
SUNDAY: 9:30am & 4pm
MONDAY: 5pm & 6pm
*If catechist roles are not filled for a specific class, that class may be canceled.
To support a safe ministry environment for our volunteers and young people, all adult volunteers (ages 18 and older) must take the online Safe Environment Training course and complete a background check. This must be completed before your first volunteer opportunity. To become certified or to check the expiration date of your certificate, please visit the Diocese website.MANDATORY CATECHIST WORKSHOP
