St. Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Franciscan priest known for his profound devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and his heroic sacrifice during World War II. Arrested by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz, he offered his life in place of another prisoner condemned to die. He was canonized in 1982 and is recognized as a martyr of charity. St. Maximilian's life is a powerful witness to faith, courage, and self-giving love.
